Fill Your Card at Checkout With AutoFill, Without Saving It in the Browser

Every checkout asks for the same sixteen digits. Version 3.1.0 lets Kinship Vault hand them over: from the AutoFill menu on iPhone and iPad, and straight into payment forms on Android. The number opens only with your face or fingerprint, and the CVV never leaves the card.

Most people end up with their card saved in three places: the browser, a couple of shops, and a photo of the card "just in case". Each copy is one more place a breach or a borrowed phone can reach. Kinship Vault keeps one copy, encrypted in your vault next to the rest of your important things, and brings it to the checkout when you ask for it.

Key takeaways

  • iPhone and iPad (iOS 18 or later): choose Kinship Vault from the AutoFill menu at checkout and insert the card number, expiry or name, one field at a time.
  • Android: the AutoFill service fills the number, expiry and name together in apps and in Chrome.
  • The number is a sealed secret. It is revealed only after Face ID, Touch ID or your fingerprint.
  • No CVV, ever. There is no field for it, and AutoFill never fills one.
  • Cards are Credit Card records, part of Vault Pro, and covered by the owner's plan in a shared vault.

Putting a card in the vault

A card is a Credit Card record: number, expiry and the name on the card. Three ways to add one:

The card number is stored as a sealed secret, encrypted separately inside the record, the same way a password is. The expiry, the name and the last four digits are kept as ordinary fields, so the AutoFill sheet can show which card is which before anything secret is unlocked.

Why there is no CVV field. The three or four digits on the back exist to prove you hold the card right now. A stored CVV defeats that, and card networks forbid merchants from keeping it for the same reason. So Kinship Vault leaves it on the card: no field for it, and AutoFill never fills one. It is not on the contactless chip either, so tapping a card never reads it.

Filling on iPhone and iPad

Apple does not let apps other than its own fill a whole card form in one go. What iOS 18 does allow is inserting text from a password manager into any field, which is what Kinship Vault uses:

  1. Tap the card number field at checkout.
  2. In the menu above the keyboard, choose AutoFill, then Kinship Vault.
  3. Pick the card, then Card number. Face ID or Touch ID unlocks it and it is inserted.
  4. Move to the expiry field and repeat with Expiry, then Name on card if the form asks.

It is one field per trip because iOS inserts one piece of text at a time. The expiry and the name insert at once; only the number asks for your face or finger, because only the number is a secret.

Filling on Android

Android's AutoFill framework understands payment forms, so Kinship Vault fills the card in one step. When you tap a card field in an app or a browser, Kinship Vault offers your cards; pick one, confirm with your fingerprint, and the number, expiry and name land in their fields. The security code field is recognised, and left for you.

Using Chrome? Chrome fills cards with its own autofill unless you hand the job to your AutoFill service. In Chrome, open Settings → Autofill services and choose Autofill using another service. Kinship Vault's own AutoFill settings remind you of this.

And on the Mac?

macOS has no way for an app other than Apple's to fill card fields, so the Mac app cannot do it. Your cards are still there, synced from your iPhone through iCloud: open the card's record and copy what the form needs.
